Something New and Terryfying!

I've been wanting to do a piece in gouache and ink for a long time, so finally I decided to indulge the technique with this nautical nightmare! Someday I'd like to blow this up and print a big ol' poster of him and sell it to a sushi bar.

Here's the completed piece! I enlarged the little mantis man to the left. He is evil.

Mantis Man!

I am currently working an a crazy little project; illustrating tiny races of bug people that train insects as their steeds and war against each other. The idea came to be while browsing through a rain forest book, containing a collection of bizarre colorful jungle bugs. They looked like some kind of absurd war machines. I was compelled to create a universe where they are just that.

Anyways, the project is still in its infancy, but I thought I'd show what I've got so far.
